Colt Announces The Return of the Short-Barreled 3″ Python

Rereleased in 2020, the Colt Python turned heads. The chance to own a new production of one of America’s favorite revolvers was exhilarating. Colt is forging ahead with new options for Python lovers. New for 2022, Colt is offering the classic short-barreled 3″ Python.

Often dubbed the “finest production revolver ever made,” the Colt Python built a cult following among wheel gun enthusiasts. In 2020, Colt relaunched its famous Python revolver with two-barrel length options—a 4.25-inch and a 6-inch. And after more than a twenty-year production hiatus, this announcement was music to shooters’ ears. However, collectors still longed for the 3-inch model. Well, the wait is over – a production 3-inch Python is back in 2022!

The Return of the Short-Barreled 3″ Python

The new 3″ Python is a continuation of one of the most famous double-action revolvers in the history of firearms. There are already 4.25″ and 6″ models available, but this one is for the lovers of the short barrel. The gun is chambered in .357 Magnum and holds six total rounds. One change to the gun from the original is the sights. The rear sight is adjustable for windage and elevation, while the Red-Ramp front sight is interchangeable. The barrel uses 6-groove rifling and has a left-hand twist rate of 1:14. The muzzle uses a recessed target crown. Grips are made of walnut and feature the Colt medallion. The stainless steel components wear a semi-bright finish.
