I’m always on the lookout for compact fishing gear. I love the standard poles and I’ve even fished with a stick, but something was just missing and I couldn’t find something that really worked.
I used a telescoping pole once and they were so easy to not only break, but they were weak and some of them straight up broke when I tried to pull a fish in.
It just wasn’t a solid option for me. Maybe I just got some defective ones, I don’t know, but I wasn’t happy with those options.
In walks the Ka-Bar Kaster!

Using it is extremely easy.
You can wrap 100 yards of 8lb line or 90 yards of 10lb line.
Simply take off the plastic clamp and begin wrapping the fishing line around.
When you’re done wrapping, attach whatever hooks, weights and bait you’d like.
At this point you can then clamp it back down until you’re ready to fish or begin fishing immediately.
It’s so easy to fish with this, I wasn’t sure it was going to be intuitive but all you do is hold the line with your finger, pull back like you would with a fishing pull, then fling it forward and release the line, just like you would with a normal fishing pole.
The line flies extremely far, of course it all depends on wind and how hard you throw it, but I was surprised by how far it can go.
To reel the line in, just wrap the line around the caster.
Once you’re done, you can place the clamp back on.
The Ka-Bar Kaster has a huge storage compartment. The top twists off with ease to reveal a huge storage compartment. I felt like I kept putting gear into it and it never filled up!
It’s an all-in-one setup. You don’t even necessarily need to carry any additional fishing kit, because of the storage kit, you could potentially hold everything right in there and take out as needed.
For $16 on Amazon, $19 from their website, you really can’t go wrong with this piece of equipment in your bug out bag, backpacking gear or regular everyday use. It can even fit in your pocket! You’ll never know it’s even there because of the size and how compact it is.
