On the Prairie with the Burris Optics Signature HD 5-25x50mm

In this review, I’m going to break down the Burris Optics Signature HD rifle scope I used on my most recent bison hunt in South Dakota.

Some hunts are once and lifetime and nearly impossible to replicate. Many of my favorite hunts are ones that I will likely never get an opportunity to experience a second time and so those memories need to be burned into my mind. There are also many hunts that can become an annual tradition. Those hunts are an opportunity to relive the thrill of my first harvest of an animal year after year. For me, Bison hunting is becoming a new ritual. It’s the perfect way for me to end my year with an enjoyable hunt that yields an enormous amount of meat for my freezer.

I just completed my second Bison hunt and when I say this hunt yields a ton of meat, I’m not kidding. My most recent Bison harvest provided me with 530 pounds of bone in meat which I promptly turned in to Steaks and hamburger, with some left over bones to boil for my dog! On this hunt I had a great line up of gear including the all new Savage Arms Impulse Mountain Hunter, Remington Core-Lokt tipped ammo, Silencer Central Banish 30 Gold, and the Burris Optics Signature HD rifle Scope.

We’ve been around the block this year with Burris Optics and used a number of different optics in their line up. From the tech heavy and incredibly functional Eliminator 5 to the to the tactical focused RT6, we’ve had a ton of fun and success with Burris by our side.

My trip back to South Dakota for Bison this year was another great experience. As far as the Burris Optics Signature HD rifle Scope, it was a dream to pair with my Impulse rifle. The Burris Optics Signature HD rifle Scope is available in 3 models with a variety of objectives and power. The model I was using was the Signature HD 5-25x50mm. I’m always one to lean towards a larger objective lens on my optics because I often find myself hunting in low light conditions and the extra light-gathering capability with a 50mm objective is noticeable. Beyond the 50mm objective lens, the Signature HD 5-25x50mm has a number of great features.

The Signature HD 5-25x50mm has a 30mm nitrogen-filled tube to compliment it’s 50mm objective lens. Shooters can choose their scope with one of three available reticles;  the Fine Plex, Ballistic E3, or 6.5 Creedmoor. You do also have the option of an illuminated or non illuminated reticle depending on your preference. As far as focal plane, Burris offers two versions of the Signature HD 5-25x50mm with rear focal plane and one with front focal plane. If you are more concerned with precision shooting you may lean towards the first focal plane options which also features tall knobs.

The knob height you select will be up to your preference, but all of the Signature HD scopes features a zero stop turret to help enhance your shooting experience once you have zeroed your rifle. Speaking of the turrets, they are incredibly smooth when dialling in which I absolutely love. The scope itself also has a very nice matte black finish which looks and feels great.

As far as performance goes, I could not be happier with what I saw from the Signature HD 5-25x50mm. The glass was incredibly crisp and clear which is a shooters dream come true. While this hunt was in the 100 yard range, I have stretched the Signature HD 5-25x50mm out to 400+ yards and accomplished sub MOA groups with my 300 WinMag Impulse Mountain Hunter. As a total package, the Signature HD 5-25x50mm does everything I need and more in the field and I am really looking forward to using it again in the future.

One of the really nice things about Burris Optics is that they offer a forever warranty. That means that Burris Optics will repair or replace your optic if it’s damaged or defective. Even better, there is no cost and no receipt needed. All you need to do is simply send it and it they will fix it for you!
